Description
If you are looking for a replacement cylinder for your classic Aeron chair, these are the cylinders you want. These are the newest version OEM cylinders that Herman Miller uses. If you purchase a cheaper cylinder or older version cylinder you are without a doubt sacrificing function for cost. These are the heavy duty class 4 extended cylinders with a full 6" stroke, wobble free at full extension. These fit all size chairs (A, B, & C). It's important to note that there are plenty of cheaper cylinders being marketed as "fits Herman Miller Aeron" which are just cylinders that were made for different chairs, not Aerons, which will still slide into the base but they either sit too high in the base which causes your chair to be too tall to keep your feet in an ergonomically correct position if you're not over 6' tall or they don't form the proper taper seal in the base which causes wobbling over time. Cylinders are specifically manufactured to taper down within 1/100 of an inch to form a seal in the base of the chair. Other cylinders aren't made to the same specs so they won't fit perfectly and as you sit on it over and over they can sink lower and lower into the base over months and years of use. Those cylinders also have much shorter life spans than the heavy duty ones from Herman Miller. You can usually tell if the cylinder shaft isn't silver like the originals or the pin at the top is a cheap plastic one instead of a metal pin. When you use them you can feel the difference in quality immediately. These are smooth like butter and lower nice and slowly, the others drop you down quickly. There have been many versions of cylinders used for the Aeron over the years and we can name the serial numbers of each of them because we have replaced hundreds of each type and are familiar with all of them. There are single stage, single stage extended, double stage, pin activated, cable activated, etc. We have both pin and cable activated cylinders in this listing so you don't need to spend twice as much to get a kit with a cable to convert your chair if it's not what you have. These are the newest versions of the two variations which have corrected issues from the previous generation: wobbling when near full extension, telescopic cylinders loosing pressure or slowly sinking, etc. To simplify things for you, if your chair was manufactured 06/25/2013 or earlier, you have a pin-activated (also called top-activated) cylinder. There are many iterations of pin-activated cylinders but regardless of what you had before, this is the best version that will work on your chair. If your chair was manufactured on or after 06/26/2013, you have a cable activated (also called side-activated) cylinder. This is the best cable activated cylinder that will work on your chair. Just select your chair's manufactured date out of the two options and feel free to ask any questions. We will ship these out right away with priority mail and thanks in advance for your purchase.
